Sponsorships

The Port of Harlingen is committed to supporting our local community programs, initiatives and activities that improve the quality of life in and around the Harlingen Ship Channel.

Port Commissioners, staff members and representatives from external organizations may request sponsorship of events or programs through financial support, or in-kind services that support the Port of Harlingen’s Strategic Plan.

We recognize the importance of all community activities and events; however, we evaluate all requests in the context of Port Harlingen’s mission, promotional and development policies and financial constraints.

Criteria

Sponsorships for charitable, business, or civic events must meet the following basic criteria for consideration. The amount of the approved financial or in-kind support is at the discretion of the Director and is commensurate with the benefits to be accrued by the Port.

  1. The event or promotion is targeted at customers and/or civic, community, business and/or government leaders and will provide a means for the Port to increase awareness of Port programs, goals or activities.
  2. Recipients are not:
    1. Political Campaigns or parties
    2. Groups that discriminate on the basis of age, race, sex, sexual orientation or national origin.
    3. Or, organizations using funds specifically used for religious activities.
    4. Individuals

    Approval of sponsorship funds, or the funding level of those approvals shall be considered as one-time approvals.

Sponsorship Process

All sponsorship requests must be received at least 4 weeks prior to the event or activity in order to be considered. Requests must either given in person to a Port staff member for process or emailed to amy@portofharlingen.com before the deadline.

All requests must be turned into the Public Relations and Marketing Department and will be evaluated by port leadership. After reviews and sponsorship determinations, the Public Relations and Marketing Department will contact the requesting organization and provide a response.

Maritime Commerce

Promotes domestic and international martime trade that generates economic development.

Economic and Workforce Development

Supports economic and workforce development-related prgrams to help generate and support commerce.

Environmental Awareness and Stewardship

Promotes environmental protection and stewarship aimed at water conservation, quality and improvement, pollution prevention and remediation, storm-water management, sustainability and waste reduction and quality air improvement.

Community Outreach

Supports community-based activities and programs to promote general welfare of the region aligned with the Port’s strategic objectives, and investments aimed to support communities’ quality of life that are directly affected by Port activities.
